Pettit Breaks Program Record at Air Force Invite

Mackenzie Pettit broke the UNC pentathlon record
COLORADO SPRINGS – It was a record performance for Mackenzie Pettit on day one of the Air Force Invite. She set the UNC and personal record for the pentathlon with a score of 3,615. Pettit broke the previous record of 3,611 set by Alisha Allen in 2016.
On her way to her record-breaking performance, Pettit set PRs in the high jump and shot put. She recorded a jump of 1. 69m (5'6 ½") and her best throw went 11.31m (37' 1 ¼"). Her mark of 1.69 is the third best in the Big Sky this season. Teammate Nene Phenix is tied for the lead with a mark of 1.71m.
Her leap of 1.69m tied for first in the high jump of the contestants and she won the shot put.
Pettit's final score earned her a third place finish overall.
"Mackenzie had an outstanding day. She had personal bests in three events today and broke the school record in the process," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Wayne Angel said. We are so proud of her. She represented UNC today."
On day two of the invite, six UNC runners qualified for Saturday's finals while Kylie Chavez and Allison Davis picked up points for the women's team in the long jump. Chavez ended up fifth for team points with a mark of 5.62m (18' 5 ¼") and Davis earned the eighth place points with a jump of 5.39m (17' 8 ¼").
