Volleyball Sweeps Montana to Open Big Sky Play

UNC volleyball made quick work of Montana Thursday night
GREELEY – Northern Colorado made quick work of Montana to open Big Sky play on Thursday night sweeping the Griz in a speedy hour and 12 minutes. The Bears improved as the match went on winning the sets 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13 moving to 7-6 on the season and 1-0 in the Big Sky.
UNC out-hit UM .340 to .209 and had three players finish the match in double-figure kills. Lauren Hinrichs and Kailey Jo Ince tied for the team lead with 12 kills while Taylor Muff added in 11.
Hinrichs went unblemished on the night not recording an attack error on her way to a .571 hitting percentage.
Taylor Els and Daisy Schultz led the team with 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
Both teams came out swinging in the first set as UNC edged out UM hitting .419 to .321. The Griz went on a late 7-2 run to cut the Bears lead to two and all the way to one at 24-23 before an Ince kill gave UNC the set victory.
In the second set, the Bears defense stepped up reducing Montana's hitting percentage to .208. Muff, Ince and Jadyn McCartney each had four kills in the set.
The third set was the most complete by the Bears. They hit .333 in it and held Montana to .103.

Northern Colorado looks to improve to 2-0 in Big Sky play when Montana State comes to town on Saturday. First serve between the Bears and Bobcats is set for 7 pm. With a win on Saturday UNC head coach Lyndsey Oates will have 250 in her career.
