Hawkeyes Soar Higher Than The Bears
9/13/2019 8:20:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Iowa City, Iowa- While the 3-0 victory last Sunday against Austin Peay fired up the Bears, the momentum was unable to come on the road with the team as they fell to Iowa 4-0.
The Hawkeyes set a high bar at the beginning of the first half with their first goal in the sixth minute of the game. While Lexi Pulley had one shot, goalkeeper Taylor Washington bared most of the heat. With ten total shots faced, Washington saved four of them and allowed two in during the first half.
The Bears were unable to put a lot of pressure on the Hawkeyes as they dropped back to help Washington on the defensive end of the field. While the Hawkeyes extended their lead to 3-0, the Bears continued to attack as Kaitlyn Meeder hit one to the lower right side of the net that ended up being saved by Iowa.
Off a corner kick, in the 63rd minute, the Hawkeyes received their fourth goal of the game, sealing the overall win against the Bears.
Tim's Take
"Iowa is a good team, very organized and experienced team. Taylor made some good saves, and although we didn't generate many shots offensively, we had plenty of opportunities as it was 2-0 at the half, but we just made some mistakes. We're a young team though, and we will learn from this and get ready for Missouri on Sunday. It's a challenge, but it's getting easier as we go."
What's Next
The Bears have a quick travel-turnaround as they head to the University of Missouri on September 15, for a noon MT game. The Bears get a little break before taking on the University of Colorado on September 19 but are then back at Jackson Stadium to take on the University of South Dakota at noon a week from Sunday. Come out and support the Bears, and as always admissions are free.
