Ready Break! 2019 football camp opens

UNC football opened its 2019 camp on Wednesday morning
GREELEY – The boys are back in town! Northern Colorado football started its 2019 camp on Wednesday under great condition on the Butler-Hancock Practice Fields.
The Bears began preparation for their first game of the year which is less than a month away when they face San Jose State on August 29 at 7 pm PT/8 pm MT. The game is the earliest start date in program history.
While the players hit the field for the first time in 2019, here are a few things to keep your eye on throughout camp.
Tempo, Tempo, Tempo
UNC hired a new offensive coordinator in Nick Fulton over the offseason and started to install his system during the spring season. The former OC at Colorado School of Mines brings a strong pedigree with him having coached the top rated offense in Division II football in 2016 and 2018. How the Bears are able to learn Fulton's up-tempo offense will be a key to success in the 2019 season.
Defensive Revamp
Marty English enters his second year back as the defensive coordinator for the Bears and revamped the defensive staff over the offseason. The team welcomes Miles Kochevar (Secondary/Safeties), Trent Matthews (Secondary/Safeties) and Louis Cortes (Outside Linebackers) to the staff. English and the staff will be tasked to coach up a young defense.
Guess Who's Back, Back Again
Jacob Knipp returns for his sixth year of eligibility. After three straight seasons of season-ending injuries, Knipp is ready to attack his final season at UNC. Entering 2019, Knipp is 10th in program history in passing yards with 4,128 and 11th in touchdown passes with 28. With an outstanding year, Knipp could pass Corte McGuffey and his career record 8,766 passing yards as a Bear.
Big Shoes to Fill
UNC's receiving core will have a different look in 2019 with the graduation of Alex Wesley. The program's second leading receiver only behind Vincent Jackson leaves some big shoes to fill while he competes for a spot on the New York Giants roster. Look for senior Willie Fairman to step up along with junior Noah Sol and sophomore Dontay Warren.
