After their last Big Sky Conference match in Sacramento on Saturday, the Bears headed to the McArthur Tennis Center in Reno, Nevada for their final match of the season against the University of Nevada. The Wolfpack was able to defeat the banged-up Bears by a score of 4-0.
Nevada won the doubles point by putting together wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts. Julian Kenzlers/Nick Wade were defeated 6-1, and Alex Exsted/Michael Kritzinger fell 6-4. Kyle Pease/Tommy Smalley were in a tight match up 6-5 before the match went unfinished.
Due to an injury suffered on Saturday in Sacramento, Adolfo Arroyo was unable to compete. Nevada earned the first singles point by UNC not having a player to compete in the No. 6 spot.
After Nevada clinched the match with wins in the No. 5 and No. 3 spots, the three remaining singles matches were unfinished. Despite not being able to finish their matches, Kyle Pease was in a tight three-set duel on the No. 1 court, and Tommy Smalley had also forced three sets with his opponent.
Head Coach Ben Gendron was pleased with the season his team put together,
"It was a great turnaround from last year. We were picked dead last in the polls and had a shot to make the tournament during the last weekend of the year. Unfortunately it didn't go our way. We had some tough injuries this weekend which then left us short-handed against a very good Nevada team. Proud of how hard the guys worked and believed all year."
The Bears finish their season with a record of 11-13 (3-7 BSC) and held an impressive 8-4 record on their home court.
