GAME 1
Jack Pauley, who had himself a day, singled with one out in the ninth to put the tying run on base. Hayden Heinze came in to pinch run but was thrown out at second base trying to get into scoring position. The game ended when Jake Gitter flied out to right field.
Down 9-2 in the fifth, UNC mounted a major rally. It all started with a Tyler Yamaguchi single after Matt Burkart drew a walk, Pauley singled in a pair of runs and cut the lead to 9-4. Later in the inning, Sam Leach came up and tripled to right center, which scored Pauley and Gitter, who walked. Quinn Ayers and Lucas Allen followed with RBI singles to cut the lead to 9-8.
GAME 2
The Bears trailed 7-2 headed to the eight inning, before Leach and Ayers drew a pair of base on balls to spark the rally. That set the table for Billy Moreland who doubled down the left field line to score Leach and Ayers. With two outs in the inning, Burkart singled in Moreland to cut the lead to just two.
Portland answered with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.
BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE
On the day,
- Pauley finished with six hits and five RBIs.
- Moreland had a pair of knocks and RBIs.
- Leach had that triple and 2 runs batted in.
- Gitter had a pair of hits.
UNC will try and salvage the series with a win in the finale on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
