POCATELLO, Idaho -- The UNC women's tennis team travelled to Pocatello, Idaho for a Saturday morning match against the Idaho State Bengals, who defended their home court with a 6-1 win over the Bears.
The Bengals swept the doubles matches to earn the first point on the day. Louise-Mare Botes/Alexandra Arkhipov began the sweep with a win on the No. 2 court 6-2 over Sandra Keta/Natalie Stanton. Hristina Cvetkovic/Megan Poe followed it up with a win in a well fought match against Raffa Mora/Anna Battersby 6-4 on the No. 1 court. Madison Fenske/Melissa Coburn capped the doubles matches off with another win in the tie-breaker over Madeline Doherty/Synclair Larson 7-5.
Things didn't get any easier for the Bears in singles play. Idaho State was able to take five out of the six matches, the lone win for the Bears coming in a long, close duel on the No. 3 court. Sandra Keta came back after losing a close first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (4) to win the second set comfortably 6-1. The third set was another tight one, with Keta coming out on top 10-4 to earn a point for the Bears.
Head Coach Chad Stoloff had this to say after the match,
"Tough match today. We fought hard, they fought even harder. They were better in the big moments. Credit to Idaho State, good luck to them. We will be resilient and bounce back to be better tomorrow."
The Bears will now travel down to Ogden, Utah for another early Sunday morning match against Weber State.
