UNC dominates late innings to win WAC opener

Down a run following the seventh inning stretch, Jack Pauley and Hayden Heinze started the inning by getting hit by a pitch on back-to-back pitches. Billy Moreland reached, and the bases were loaded with no outs for Matt Zoba. The sophomore shortstop smashed a ball through the infield that brought home Pauley and Heinze to put the Bears up for good 5-4.
Looking for insurance runs in the eighth inning, Moreland drove in Braxton Inniss to push the lead to 6-4. UNC went on to add a pair of runs to close the inning.
Those tack on runs came in handy to keep UNC in the lead after CSU scored in the top of the ninth.
BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE
- Sam Leach drew the Bears even with his blasted his first home run of the season a 2-run shot.
- He finished with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.
- Moreland also had three hits and drove in one.
- Zoba finished with two RBIs.
- Making his first start as a Bear, Adrian Vela had three hits.
- Karver Pate went the final 2 and 2/3 innings in relief of the starter Issac Bracken to earn the win.
- He allowed just two hits.
Northern Colorado will look to move to 2-0 in WAC play tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
