UNC swimming & diving set three more school records at the WAC Championships on Friday
HOUSTON – Three more school records fell during day three of the WAC Swimming and Diving Championships for Northern Colorado. The Bears broke the school record for the 100 back and 400 medley relay on Friday night.
Freshman Maddy Moore continued her strong first season for UNC by finishing second in the 100 back with a time of 54.68. She ended up second in the race and set a school record with the time that is also a NIC B-qualifier.
Moore was also a part of the 400 medley relay team that set the school record with a time out 3:41.41. She was joined by teammates Maria Heymans, Morgan King and Emily Hamel in the record-setting. For the race, they finished second behind Northern Arizona. The group earned a NIC A-qualifying time with it.
The third school record to go down on Friday came in the 200 free. Rose Saya broke a 12 year old record by finishing the B-finals in 1:49.48 to take second in the final and 10th place overall.
Petra Kis added to the team's first place finishes at the Championships by winning the 400 IM. She touched the wall in 4:16.28.
The 100 breast was also swam on Friday with Maria Heyman and Leilani Herrera both racing in the A-Finals. Heyman ended up finishing fourth in a time of 1:02.08, while Herrera set a new career-best time with a 1:02.50.
Ebeling's Take
The girls stepped up and threw down some amazing performances today. After some nerves got to us in the morning, they came back in the evening to put together some of the toughest races I've seen in a long time. Cleaning up details helped us jump in a few places and break three more school records. We are in a dog fight and the meet is going to come down to who wants it the most and can be the toughest on the last day. We are looking forward to some big swims tomorrow!
What's ahead
Northern Colorado will look to leap into at least third place tomorrow as they enter it 5.5 points back. Once again the Prelims begin at 9:30 am MT and can be watched through the WAC's Facebook Live feed. The finals start at 5 pm MT and will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network. Live results through all four days can be found by clicking here.
