UNC swimming & diving picked to earn highest ever finish at WAC Championships
DENVER – With the WAC Swimming and Diving Championships set to begin on Wednesday in Houston, Texas, the pre-championship coaches poll was released on Tuesday. Coming off their best-ever finish last season, UNC is picked to take third place in this year's championship.
The only teams picked ahead of UNC were defending champion Northern Arizona and New Mexico State. During the regular season, Northern Colorado fell to NAU in Flagstaff but defeated NMSU 187.5-112.5 in Greeley. The Bears were 4-1 overall in WAC meets.
Northern Colorado will be competing in the same pool as they did for the Phill Hansel Invite in November. At the invite, UNC broke seven school records and had Maria Heymans post a pair of NCAA B qualifying times, along with six swimmers qualifying for the College Swimming National Invitational Championship over March 14-16.
Last season, the Bears finished fifth at the WAC Championships and look to set a new record this season.
