Savannah Smith picked up her fourth Big Sky Player of the Week honor on Tuesday afternoon
OGDEN, Utah – Coming off a week in which she averaged 30.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals and coming off arguably her best game of career as a Bear, Savannah Smith earned her fourth Ready Nutrition Big Sky Player of Week honor in six weeks, announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the fifth time in her career she has won the award, giving the second most Big Sky Player of the Week honors in program history. D'shara Strange is the only Bear to have been named the conference Player of the Week more often while at UNC, with eight over her career.
The redshirt senior guard helped the Bears stay near the top of the Big Sky last week with her performances against Eastern Washington and Idaho. In the team's 77-72 win over UI, Smith played possibly the best game of her career. She scored 35 points to go with six assists, six steals and three rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. She shot 40.7 percent from the field in the game, including going 4-of-10 from beyond the arc and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
In the team's game against Eastern Washington, she led the team in both points and assists again with 26 and five, respectively.
For the season, Smith is averaging 21.0 points and 4.3 assists per game. That ranks her 12th in the nation scoring and second in the Big Sky, while she is 121st in assists. In conference games only, her numbers are even better, with 23.7 ppg to lead the conference and dishing out 4.5 assists which is fourth best.
Smith and her teammates return to action on Monday, February 25 at 7 pm when Montana comes to town. It is the next to last home game for the Bears this season with the home finale coming on March 7 against Southern Utah.
