Top 10 Teams Await Bears in Las Vegas

Northern Colorado will compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational this weekend
As the calendar changes to December, Northern Colorado wrestling travels to Las Vegas, Nev. for the annual Cliff Keen Invitational. The two-day tournament starts on Friday and runs through Saturday, with competition occurring all day.
UNC is back on the road after facing off against Fresno State this past Saturday. The Bulldogs topped the Bears, 25-15 in front of their home fans, winning six matches.
During the dual, Mosha Schwartz delivered in the 133-pound match, winning a 3-2 decision over No. 27 Gary Joint. The true freshman won after earning the riding time bonus at the end of the match. Schwartz was named Big-12 Wrestler of the Week for his victory, giving UNC its second award winner this season. The true freshman is 6-0 overall and 2-0 in duals to open his college career.
The Bears first Wrestler of the Week, Dalton Robertson, was electric again, getting the fall on Randy Gonzalez at 2:52. Robertson has had a seamless transition, wrestling up two weight classes this season, going from the 184-pound division to 285. The redshirt-junior is 9-2 this season, with a 2-0 dual record and has three falls on the season.
Ranked Bears
Five Northern Colorado wrestlers are ranked headed into the Cliff Keen Invite. Alan Clothier appears in three national rankings, listed at No. 15 by The Open Mat.com, No. 21 by Trackwrestling.com and No. 24 by FloWrestling.com. Clothier is 9-0 this season, going 2-0 in dual matches.
Andrew Alirez earns his top ranking from Trackwrestling, slated at No. 13. The true freshman is No. 18 by Intermat.com and No. 19 by Open Mat. Alirez remains undefeated in his first collegiate season, with a 10-0 record.
Austin Matthews is ranked No. 20 by both Trackwrestling and Open Mat. The redshirt-senior is 2-1 this season.
Jace Koelzer continues to hold down the No. 18 spot in FloWrestling's rankings, with a 7-2 going into the weekend. Jacob Seely sits at No. 31 in Trackwrestling's rankings and has an 8-3 overall record this season.
Scouting the Field
The Pre-seeds for the 2019 Cliff Keen Invitational were released on Wednesday and Northern Colorado had two wrestlers earning spots. Koelzer is the seventh seed in the 125-pound division and Clothier is No. 13 at 184-pounds.
Northern Colorado will be going against some of the nation's best teams at Cliff Keen. 11 of the Top 25 teams in the NWCA Division I Coaches poll will be represented in the Las Vegas this weekend, including for top 10 teams. Among the teams are No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Virginia Tech, No. 6 NC State and No. 7 Ohio State.
UNC will see a host of Big-12 opponents at Cliff Keen, including No. 11 Iowa State, No. 16 Northern Iowa, Fresno State, Oklahoma, Utah Valley and Wyoming. The four unranked Big-12 participants appear in other national polls. The Sooners earn their best ranking at No 18 in FloWrestlings team list, while Utah Valley is No.16 in Intermat's tournament rankings. Wyoming is No. 12 in Intermat's dual rankings and Fresno State is slated at No. 25 in Trackwrestling's team list.
In the 2018 Cliff Keen Invite, UNC did not advance any wrestlers to the second day of competition. Seely looks to place at the tournament for the second time in his career after finishing eighth during 2017 event.
Following the Bears
The 2019 Cliff Keen Invitational will begin on Friday, Dec. 6, with the first matches starting at 10 a.m.(MST). The competition continues Saturday, Dec. 7, as competition resumes with consolation matches starting at 10 a.m.
