Northern Colorado hosts Portland State in the team's first Big Sky game of the season
Northern Colorado women's basketball's campaign for a Big Sky title begins this Saturday, as the Bears host Portland State in the conference opener. UNC returns home after being on the road for a month-and-a-half.

Northern Colorado defeated Wyoming 46-44 in Laramie to close out its non-conference schedule. Kadie Deaton came up big for the Bears down the stretch, scoring the team's final seven points, including the game-winning, turnaround jumper with two seconds left on the clock.

Freshman forward Alisha Davis was named College Sports Madness Player of the Week for the Big Sky conference after the win over Wyoming. Davis scored 14 points and matched her career-high with five blocks. The total is tied for the third most in a single game in DI program history. Davis had nine rebounds, nearly notching her third career double-double.

Alexis Chapman leads UNC with a 13.7-points per game average. Chapman is shooting 35.5 percent from the floor and has six double-digit scoring games this season.

The Bears finished their non-conference schedule 4-5, going 1-2 at home and 3-3 away. Northern Colorado defeated Air Force, 72-62, in the team's last home game. UNC earned wins over SMU(61-52) and Chattanooga(59-42) as well.

Portland state went 6-4 in its non-conference schedule, winning five of its last six games. In the team's last outing, The Vikings lost to Tennessee, 88-61 at home. Prior to the loss against the Volunteers, Portland State beat in-state foe, Portland, 77-71. Tatiana Streun leads the Vikings with 13.7 points per game, while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor. Streun also leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game.
