Bears Host NoCo Open Sunday

Northern Colorado looks to duplicate its success in Laramie at home
After a statement tournament in Wyoming to start the season, Northern Colorado wrestling returns home to host the Northern Colorado Open on Sunday.
Tickets to the tournament are $12 for the whole day of competition. Fans can purchase tickets at the Bank of Colorado Arena ticket window starting at 7:30 a.m.(MT) Sunday. Purchase tickets online by clicking here.
Northern Colorado crowned six champions at the Cowboy Open and placed six others. The Bears won five of the 10 titles in the Open bracket and one in the amateur.
At the Open, Theorius Robison(133), Chris Sandoval(141), Andrew Alirez(149), Jimmy Fate(157), and Alan Clothier(184) placed first in their respective weight classes, competing in the Open brackets. Robison and Alirez picked up titles in their first collegiate tournaments. Nathan Moore won his first college tournament in the amateur, 157-pound bracket.
Jace Koelzer(125), Ethan Leake(157), Billy Higgins(174) and Jacob Seely(197) earned second place finishes in Laramie, with Leake dropping the title match to Fate in the Open bracket. Dalton Robertson placed third in the 285-pound Open bracket, while Robert Winters Jr. placed fourth.
UNC wrestlers defeated three ranked, Wyoming wrestlers during the Cowboy open. Robison defeated No. 7 and former all-american, Montorie Bridges in the finals with a 3-2 decision. Clothier up ended No. 18 Tate Samuelson in the final match, winning his first competition for UNC since transferring to
Greeley in the offseason. Koelzer upended No. 14 Cole Verner in a 6-4 decision.
The success at the Cowboy Open did not go unnoticed nationally, as seven UNC wrestlers earned rankings this week.
Alirez is ranked No. 16 by Trackwrestling.com, No. 18 by Intermat.com and No. 25 by FloWrestling.com. Clothier is slated as high as No. 18 by The Open Mat.com, No. 19 by FloWrestling and No. 31 by Trackwrestling.
Koelzer's runner up finish in Laramie earned him No. 17 by FloWrestling. Sandoval comes in at No. 24 by FloWrestling after his first-place finish. Both Seely and Winters Jr. were listed at No 31 by Trackwrestling.
Austing Mattews(165) did not compete in Laramie, but continues to gain national attention, ranked No. 12 by Open Mat, No. 13 by FloWrestling, No. 18 by Intermat and No. 20 by Trackwrestling.
Home fans can watch the 2019-20 Northern Colorado team for the first time at Bank of Colorado on Sunday. UNC had two champions and nine placers at the tournament last season.

The Bears first home dual will be against West Virginia on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.(MT).
New for the 2019 season, members of the Klawz's Cub Club will receive free admission into all regular-season home ticketed events, including football, and there are no longer youth season tickets.
