• The Bears played even with the Longhorns minus the ability to see shots go through the net, shooting 27.3 percent for the game.
• Sam Masten led UNC with 11 points at Texas
• Friday's game is the first of 14 home games for Northern Colorado this season.
• Incarnate Word dropped its first game of the year at Missouri 82-42.Â
• Freshman Drew Lutz scored a UIW freshman record 16 points in loss.
• This is Incarnate Word's first trip to Greeley.Â
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado opened its season at Texas on Tuesday, but was unable to buy a basket in the Lone Star State. Despite playing even with the Longhorns in every other facet of the game, the Bears shot just 27.3 percent and fell 69-45.
Scouting the Cardinals
In just their third year as a full fledged Division I member Incarnate Word looks for improvement under second year head coach Carson Cunningham.Â
The Cardinals went 6-25 last season including struggling in the Southland Conference where they went 1-17.
UIW has a very young team in 2019-20 returning just six letterwinners and having no seniors on the roster.Â
That youth showed up in the first game of the season as freshman Drew Lutz led the team with 16 points. The most by a freshman since the Cardinals became a Division I program.Â
Expectations are low for the young UIW team picked to finish last again in the Southland Conference.
History Against Incarnate Word
Last season was the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Bears traveled to San Antonio and defeated the Cardinals 90-64.
Against the Southland
Northern Colorado is 4-6 against the Southland conference having played five of the 13 teams in it. Six of the 10 games have come against Abilene Christian who the Bears are 2-4 against, but haven't played since the 1973-74 season.
On This Date
UNC has only played on November 8 one time. That occurrence came in 2013 when UNC defeated Kansas State to open the 2013-14 season 60-58.Â
What's Ahead?
Northern Colorado stays at home for their next game when they host Colorado College on Tuesday, November 12. Tipoff between the Bears and Tigers is set for 7 pm.
The game will be broadcast on Pluto TV ch. 541 and 1310 KFKA.Â
