Final Road Trip of the Regular Season for the Bears

Northern Colorado will play matches against Idaho and Eastern Washington this weekend
Northern Colorado volleyball starts its final road trip of the regular season and has an opportunity to claim the Big Sky title outright. UNC travels to play Idaho and Eastern Washington on Friday and Saturday respectively. The Bears can claim the Big Sky regular season championship outright by winning one of the two matches.
This past weekend, UNC won both of its home matches, defeating Weber State, 3-1, and Idaho State, 3-2. Against the Wildcats, UNC scored efficiently with a .304 attack percentage and ended the match on a 14-2 run. Four Bears scored eight-plus kills and recorded a .300 or better attack percentage.
UNC faced a determined Idaho St. team on Saturday, as the Bengals forced a fifth set against the Bears. In the fifth set, UNC held off Idaho St., 15-11, to win the match. The Bears piled up the stats against the Bengals, recording 77 kills and 13 aces. The win helped UNC earn a share of the Big Sky regular season title.
Daisy Schultz posted a Division I program-record, 72 assists to pass 3000 assists for her career. Her total ranks eighth on the all-time list and third in the DI era. Schultz now leads the Big Sky with 11.06 assists per set
Kailey Jo Ince led the way with a career-high 29 kills, while hitting .276 against Idaho St. Ince's total was the second highest total in the D1 era and the most for a single match since 2010. The sophomore is third in the conference with 3.68 kills per set and 10th with a .261 attack percentage. Lauren Hinrichs is seventh in attack percentage with a .306 percentage after hitting .400 against Weber St.
In the game against the Bengals, Ince and Jadyn McCartney each scored 20+ kills, the first Bear teammates to accomplish the stat line since 2010.
Taylor Els recorded her fourth-straight match with 20+ digs, recording 24 against Idaho St. Els had four aces in the match as well, giving her 102 for her career to tie the all-time, DI program record. Els is third in the Big Sky with 4.58 digs per set. Els was also selected to the CoSIDAÂ All-District Team on Thursday.
Taylor Muff recorded her ninth and 10th double-double of the season this past weekend. Muff is second on the team for both, kills per set with (3.00) and digs per set(2.45). She ranks eighth in the conference with 3.62 points per set.
Northern Colorado looks to secure the Big Sky regular season title this weekend with two big road matches.
Scouting the Vandals
Idaho and UNC will meet for the second time this season, after the Bears topped the Vandals, 3-1 in Greeley. Coming into the weekend, Idaho is fourth in the Big Sky with an 9-6 record, 13-14 overall. Idaho fell to both Montana State and Montana at home over the weekend. The Vandals rebounded with a 3-1 win over Eastern Washington this Tuesday. Nicole Ball leads the Idaho defense at the net, ranking third in the conference with 1.20 blocks per set. Ball is also fourth in the conference with a .315 attack percentage. Kyra Palmbush is right ahead of Ball at second in the Big Sky with a .346 attack percentage.
Scouting the Eagles
Eastern Washington sits at 4-11 in the Big Sky and 6-21 overall in the 2019 season. UNC swept the Eagles this season in early October. During the past week, EWU has gone 1-2, defeating Montana 3-2, while dropping matches to Montana St.(1-3) and Idaho(1-3). Ashlyn Blotzer leads the Eagles offense with 2.17 kills per set. Catelyn Linke averages 4.51 digs per set to lead the back-row defense for EWU.
