Northern Arizona topped UNC 2-0
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- The unbeaten streak for UNC came to end on Sunday afternoon, as the Bears fell to Northern Arizona, 2-0. UNC [5-9-3, 2-1-2] did not generate enough offense and battled the elements against the Lumberjacks.
"It just was not our day," head coach Tim Barrera said. "We have to come back and regroup at home."
NAU got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Ana Rivera in the 19th minute. Maddie Duren had two shots on goal in the first half to try and create opportunities for UNC.
"We came out and played well at the beginning and went back-and-forth with [NAU]," Barrera said. "[Rivera] got a one time shot and scored."
After halftime, Lumberjacks extended the lead after Madi Montgomery scored her sixth goal of the season off a penalty kick.
"In the second half, we were going against a 15-mph wind. There was a bad bounce and they got a penalty shot out of it," Barrera explained.
Duren finished the day with three total shots and Taylor Bray also had three, with one on goal.
The Lumberjacks out-shot the Bears 15-8 in the game.
