Machin Norris, a STEM Integration teacher at Northridge High School, was recognized as the inaugural Noble Energy Educator of the Month at the September 28 Bears football game against Idaho.
Norris, a former science teacher at Franklin Middle School, is one of seven finalists for the 2020 Colorado Teacher of the Year. An educator in Greeley-Evans School District 6 since 2011, she serves as a teacher liaison for the Colorado Springs-based Space Foundation, helping integrate space-based education into the classroom. She has also earned her certification in the Wings Aerospace Program from the Wings over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in Denver and spent two weeks of this past summer as one of just 30 teachers nationally at the prestigious Teacher Innovator Institute at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
Norris is District 6's first finalist for the Colorado Teacher of the Year honor since 2011. The sole finalist for the Colorado Teacher of the Year honor will be announced November 1 with that teacher advancing to represent Colorado in the National Teacher of the Year competition organized by the Council of Chief State School Officers.
UNC Athletics and Noble Energy are partnering to recognize deserving Weld County Educators through the Noble Energy Educator of the Month throughout the 2019-20 academic year. One educator will be recognized each month September through May and receive a VIP experience at a UNC Athletics event and $500 courtesy of Noble Energy to spend on qualifying supplies for their classroom, school or program that will impact students.
"One of the most important role models in a young person's life is often standing at the front of the classroom. Noble Energy is proud to partner with UNC in recognizing those who make a difference through our support of the Educator of the Month program," said Mark Patteson, Vice President DJ Basin, Noble Energy. "By working together we can all help shape the lives of our future workforce, leaders and community members."
Educators, which include not only teachers but administrators, counselors, etc. that serve students in Weld County, are eligible for the Noble Energy Educator of the Month award. Self-nominations are allowed.
Nominations can be made at UNCBears/EducatoroftheMonth.
