Smith earns Ready Nutrition Big Sky Player of the Week honors for the second time in 2018-19

For the second time in three week's Savannah Smith earned the Ready Nutrition Big Sky Player of the Week award
OGDEN, Utah – For the second time in three weeks, Northern Colorado women's basketball's Savannah Smith earned the Ready Nutrition Big Sky Player of the Week honor. It is Smith's second Big Sky Player of the Week honor of the season and third of her career. Smith averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting 46.5 percent from the field as the Bears hit the halfway point of Big Sky play at 8-2.
Northern Colorado returned to first place in the Big Sky behind a pair of big games from Smith, and more accurately a pair of big quarters from the redshirt senior guard. Smith had a big second quarter for Northern Colorado against Southern Utah after the team came out sluggish against SUU. She scored seven points in the quarter on 3-of-4 shooting while assisting on three more of the team's 10 baskets to take the lead and never relinquish it in a 71-44 win. She finished the game as the team's leading scorer with 19 points while adding in six of the Bears 19 assists.
The third quarter of against Northern Arizona was the Savannah Smith show. Smith went off for 22 of her 30 points in the third quarter, including scoring the team's first 18 points in a span of 4:29. She started the third by making her first eight field goal attempts including going 4-for-4 from behind the arc. By the end of the quarter, Smith was 9-for-11 from the field including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. She finished the game with her 30 point output of the season and added in two of the team's season-high eight blocks.
For the season, Smith is averaging 19.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals a game. She has turned up her performance during the Big Sky season by scoring 22.3 points a game and adding in 3.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals.
Smith and her teammates next play on February 4 at Montana State at 6 pm. UNC's next home game is set for Valentine's Day against Eastern Washington at 7 pm inside Bank of Colorado Arena.
