@UNCO_MensTennis opens season with a split against NKU and Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS – Northern Colorado men's tennis began its season this past weekend in Colorado Springs with a 4-3 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday. Julian Kenzlers and Alex Exsted earned the first win of the day with the No. 2 doubles 6-3.
In singles, UNC picked up solid wins in the No. 1 spot from Kyle Pease 6-4, 7-6 and from No. 5 Nick Wade 6-4, 6-1. It was Adolfo Arroyo and Alex Exsted who both came out on top in their 3rd set to seal the win for the Bears.
"We came out with some nerves in our first match against Northern Kentucky but were able to overcome them once singles started. Fito (Adolfo) and Alex were able to come up with 2 huge 3rd set victories to allow us to come out on top," Head Coach Ben Gendron said.
The Bears followed their win with a Sunday match against Air Force, a 0-7 loss. No. 1 singles was a tight duel with Kyle Pease falling 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
"I thought we played a much better match on Sunday against Air Force even though the outcome was much different. We played much smarter in singles." Gendron said.
The Bears will be tested in their next few matches against Top 100 ranked teams Denver, SMU, and Nebraska.
