POCATELLO, Idaho – Fresh off one of the more frustrating shooting halves of the season, UNC got right to work against Idaho State on Monday night. The Bears scored 15 of their first 20 points from behind the arc and Northern Colorado simply shot the Bengals out of their own gym on the way to a 77-53 victory.
Despite the hot start from deep, Idaho State was hanging around down just 17-15 before Sam Masten knocked down a triple that was the springboard for a 25-12 UNC run. The Bears started to pull away with just under five minutes left in the half when Jonah Radebaugh knocked down the first of his three first-half triples. The junior drained another three-ball just over a minute later, which put the Bears up by 12 with 3:26 left in the half. Radebaugh wasn't done, with under 20 seconds left on the clock he made his third triple of the half and UNC wasn't done scoring, just yet. Jordan Davis got the shooters bounce to end the first half when his three-pointer went down with just four seconds left before halftime and the Bears took a 42-17 lead to the break.
UNC and ISU came into Monday night leading the Big Sky in three-pointers made. Idaho State was averaging 10 makes a game, the Bears held them to just two.
On the other side, Idaho State hadn't allowed more than 10 triples in a game this season and that included games against No. 4 Gonzaga and Boise State. Led by Radebaugh, the Bears made nine triples in the first 20 minutes. Matej Drgon came off the bench and made sure Northern Colorado didn't miss a beat in the second half as the big man made four his own, which helped the Bears drain 13 three-pointers as a team.
BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE
The Bears went 2-1 on their three-game roadie and remain tied for second place. They return home Thursday to take on Southern Utah on Fortnite Night and tickets are available for that game at tickets.UNCO.edu or by calling the UNC Box Office at 970-351-4849 Monday-Friday 10a.m.-5p.m.
