@UNC_BearsMBB four-game winning streak snapped by Montana

Two teams, Northern Colorado and Montana, came into Saturday's game in oppositions situations and they left Bank of Colorado Arena feeling different about themselves than how they did just 40 minutes before. Coming off a pair of surprising losses, Montana went on a 16-4 run over a nearly five minute stretch in the first half and never let the Bears get back in the game. The Griz ended UNC's four-game winning streak, 88-64.

Â
"We started OK, but had that stretch where we missed some shots at the rim," said UNC head coach Jeff Linder. "What we saw and what I had a feeling was going to happen when you have a team in Montana who is the defending champs and picked to win the league and they had their back against the wall. I knew they were going to come out with a certain sense of urgency. It wasn't that we didn't play hard, you could tell they were trying to send a message and they did that. Now we have to learn from that message."

Â
UNC led by two when Montana tied the game at 14-14. Bodie Hume came through with a pair of layups and free throws but it wasn't enough to stifle the Griz run that extended their lead to 30-18 with just under nine minutes to play.

SCHEDULE SAYSÂ
There is no time for the Bears to dwell on the loss. They turn around and head to Montana for a date with Montana State on Monday night at 7 p.m.
Â
Â
"I hate losing and I'm going to dwell on this all night," said Davis. "We have tonight to dwell and tomorrow we have to get ready for Montana State because this game is over with. We can't go back and play Montana again and try not to lose the way we did. We have to come out and play the next game the way we know how to play and throw the first punches because this fight we didn't get to throw any punches so next game we have to come out and throw the first punches."
Â
Â
After a three-game homestand, UNC is on the road for a trio of conference games before returning home to take on Southern Utah on Jan. 24. Tickets are available for that game at tickets.UNCO.edu or by calling the UNC Box Office at 970-351-4849 Monday-Friday 10a.m.-5p.m.
