Cruz Shoots Even Par in Opening Round of Ptarmigan Ram Classic

UNC's Beah Cruz shoots an opening round 72 as the Bears sit in 12th place
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's golf teed it up early Monday to start their week at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, hosted by Colorado State. After round one, UNC sits in 12th place of a 13 team field that includes Nebraska, Boise State, Wyoming and Nevada. The Bears shot a 309 in the opening round, trailing Long Beach State by a stroke and host CSU by four for 10th place.
Sophomore Beah Cruz led Northern Colorado on Monday by shooting an even-par 72. Cruz birdied her first hole of the tournament and went on to finish 1-under on the front nine with three birdies and two bogeys. She played par golf on the back nine, outside of a bogey on the par 5, 14th. The 72 sits her tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard, four strokes behind Tara Finigan of Boise State who shot a 4-under, 68.
Morgan Sahm is the other Bear sitting in the top 30 with an opening round 76. Sahm birdied the fifth and 12th hole during her round.
Marisa Hisaki, Nicole Polivchak and Aili Bundy rounded out UNC's lineup shooting an 80 and pair of 81s, respectively. Jenna Chun is also competing in the tournament as an individual in which she shot an 80.
