Recap: Seattle Take Doubleheader over @NCBearsBaseball

SEATTLE – Northern Colorado had plenty of opportunities Friday against Seattle, but was unable to take advantage of them falling 6-5 and 8-1 in the doubleheader.
Game One
It was a back and forth battle between the Bears and Redhawks with UNC striking first in the top of the first. Following a pair of outs to begin the game, Matt Burkart singled and Jack Pauley was hit by a pitch to start a two-out rally. Evan Johnson delivered the big hit of the inning with a double to score the pair and make it 2-0.
Seattle responded with a run in the bottom half to cut the lead to 2-1. SU took the lead in the third with a three-run inning on a pair of hits and a walk. UNC cut the lead to one at 4-3 when Brett Minnick launched a leadoff home run over the left field wall.
The Bears were unable to get closer as the Redhawks as they scored a pair in the fifth to go back up three at 6-3. That three-run lead lasted only until the top of the sixth when Austin Miller and Minnick scored a pair of runs for the team. Miller scored on a Dean Lawson double down the left field line that also advanced Minnick to third. He scored on a wild pitch.
Northern Colorado loaded the bases in the eighth but was unable to bring across the game-tying run. The eighth inning was the closest UNC came to coming back against Seattle as they held on to the 6-5 win.
Game Two
It was a back and forth pitcher's duel until the fourth inning when Seattle broke the glass with a five-run bottom half of the inning. With two outs in the inning, Seattle's next eight batters in the order to chase starter Aaron Hamilton and take the 5-0 lead.
Northern Colorado did not score until the top of the seventh. Alex Kiel and Dean Lawson walked to lead off to the inning. Kiel later came home on a Matt Burkart RBI double down the left field line to make it 5-1. The Redhawks responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to six runs and added on one more run in the eighth while the Bears were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Game Changer
Leadoff hitter Austin Lively was big for Seattle going 3-for-7 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI. He also walked once and was hit by a pitch twice.
Stat to Know
Northern Colorado struggled to score runners through the two games by stranding 21 runners over the pair of games.
Game Notes
- Evan Johnson and Brett Minnick each recorded a multi-hit game in game one of the doubleheader, while Cole Maltese in game two.
- Seattle's Tarik Skubal had a strong game two on the mound going six innings allowing no runs on five hits while walking three and striking out nine.
- Brett Minnick let the team with a .400 batting average on the day scoring twice including on a home run, and leading the way with three walks.
