GRAND FORKS, N.D. -The Bears came up just short of their goal in the final match of the season Sunday morning, losing 5-2 to North Dakota at Choice Health and Fitness Center. North Dakota took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to lead 1-0, then carried their momentum into singles, where only Kyle Pease and Alex Exsted were able to pick up wins for the Bears.
At No. 2, Kyle Pease defeated Annei Laska in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. With a 2-0 record on the weekend, Pease finished the spring with a 13-9 overall singles record. He went 2-0 at No. 1 and 11-9 at No. 2.
Fr. Alex Exsted was another player who found success this spring in singles. He defeated Alex Mailes at No. 5 in comeback fashion 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday. Exsted ended the year 15-8 in singles playing between No. 4 and No. 6 in Ben Gendron's the lineup.
Cassell King and Connor Finerty will graduate in May and played No. 1 doubles together all year, compiling a record of 9-13. Against North Dakota, they fell 6-3 to Lukas Buth and Daniel Martinez.
The Bears finished 11-13 (1-10 Big Sky) and will miss the conference tournament.
