Recap: @UNC_TrackField Shows Strong at Tom Benich Invitational

Greeley, CO- Northern Colorado hosted the Tom Benich Invitational Meet this past weekend at Nottingham Field and saw positive results in its lone home meet of the year. This weekend was jam-packed with multiple sporting events going on for Northern Colorado, but that did not take away from the great performances done by the Bears this past weekend. The women's team finished second behind only Colorado State and men's team third behind CSU and Wyoming.

The men's 4 X 100 Meter Relay Team continues to be successful for UNC as Bailey Sexton, Kyle Thompson, Demetrius Graves, and Alex Mead won their event early on into the meet with a time of 40.93, beating Wyoming by .39 seconds. This is the second straight 4 x 100 relay.

UNC swept the podium in the 400 meter dash, with Alex Wesley finishing with a time of 46.96. Kyle Thomas finished in second place with a time of 46.67, and Antoine Coates in third place at 47.91.

For the women's 400 meter dash, Shalise Fernander finished in first place with a time of 56.72. Fernander beat Melina Harris from Wyoming University by .40 seconds.

Cammy Sargent continues to have a strong senior season winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.32. Sargent missed her all-time record set on May 5th, 2017 (2:08.87) by .45 seconds.

Northern Colorado 'A' Team for women in the 4 X 400 meter relay finished first with a time of 3:48.14, 1.79 seconds ahead of the second place team Colorado State 'A'. This first place team consisted of Blair Berhardt, Kelsi, Schuetz, Shalise Fernander, and Cammy Sargent.

Stephen Haas placed second for the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 15:19.61 only trailing by 15.2 seconds behind first-place Christopher Henry from Wyoming. Tristian Irish came in third place in this same race with a time of 15:39.21.

The track team will be traveling to the Colorado Invitational on April 7th in Boulder, Colorado.
