MISSOULA, Mont.- The Bears were shutout 7-0 against the University of Montana in men's tennis Friday night at Peak Racquet Club. The Grizzlies swept doubles, then continued their momentum to take eleven of twelve sets in singles along with a super-tiebreaker.
The Bears defeated Montana in Greeley last year, marking their first win in program history over Montana but the Grizzlies proved they were still capable of shutting down UNC at home in 2018.
Sr. Cassell King was closest to getting the Bears on the board at No. 6 singles. He lost the first set against Ludvig Hallgren but made a comeback in the second 6-3, forcing a tiebreaker for the third but fell 10-7. Yannick Schmidl, a two time Big Sky Player of the Week dispatched the Bears' Connor Finerty at No. 1 in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 and Victor Casadevall defeated Kyle Pease at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3.
The Bears (10-11, 1-8) will remain in the state of Montana to face Montana State in Bozeman on Sunday. The scheduled start time is 2:00 p.m. Montana (9-5, 6-2 Big Sky) stays home to play Portland State next on Sunday.
