LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Each team had possessed a multi-possession lead, but with just over three minutes left in the Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic UNC and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville were tied at 69-69. In what had to feel like a déjà vu moment, the Bears saw the Cougars knock down free throw after free throw to leave Vegas a winner, 82-72.
Jordan Davis, playing in his hometown scored a game-high 28, knocked down a three to slow the SIUE role. But Tyresse Williams and David McFarland each made four free throws and McFarland added a layup to overcome the triple from Davis.
Davis was hampered by foul trouble in the first half, which left the Bears trailing by three at the half. Three-pointers are what drives the UNC offense and they came out on point in the second half. Off the bench, Trent Harris knocked down a pair of three balls and Northern Colorado grabbed the lead early after knocking down four three balls in the first four minutes of the half. They finished with seven in the half and 10 for the game.
