Huth Era begins Tuesday at Colorado

Coming off a trip to the NCAA Tournament, UNC women's basketball season opens at Colorado Tuesday
The Jenny Huth era of Northern Colorado women's basketball begins Tuesday night at a familiar spot for the first year head coach, her alma mater, Colorado. The Bears, coming off a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2017-18 take on in-state foe CU at 7 pm inside the CU Event Center.
Opening Tip
• Northern Colorado is coming off a 2017-18 season that saw them win the Big Sky Regular Season and Tournament titles to advance to the program's first NCAA Tournament.
• The Bears are under new leadership this season in Colorado native, Jenny Huth. Huth takes over after Kamie Ethridge took the head spot at Washington State.
• Big Sky MVP Savannah Smith returns for her senior season after averaging 18.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 32.1 percent from the field.
• Colorado is coming off of a 15-16 2017-18 season in the tough PAC 12.
• CU returns all five of its starters from last year, led by senior guards Kennedy Leonard and Alexis Robinson.
• Both Northern Colorado and Colorado won their exhibition games, UNC defeating South Dakota School of Mines, 71-39 and CU defeating Southern Nazarene 93-43.
Scouting the Buffs
Colorado is a veteran team coming into 2018-19 with all five of its starters back this year. The guard duo of Kennedy Leonard and Alexis Robinson provide a 1-2 punch for CU averaging 14.7 and 12.1 ppg, respectively.
Sophomore forward Annika Jank provides an inside complement for the guard duo averaging 9.1 ppg and 6.9 rebounds a game last season. She can step out and hit the three as well making 22 in 2017-18.
Colorado has been picked to finish ninth in the PAC 12 this season by both the coaches and media.
History Against Colorado
Northern Colorado is 6-12 all-time when playing against Colorado, dropping the past nine games against the Buffaloes. CU and UNC last played in the 2016-17 season opener with the Buffs coming to Greeley and winning 83-62. The Bears last win in the series came in 1978.
On This Date
November 6 is the earliest date a Northern Colorado regular season game has been played. The previous earliest was November 9 in 2012 and 2013.
Season Openers
The Bears are 25-19 all-time in their season opener. On the road, UNC is 9-7, including winning its most recent road opener last season at No. 20/25 DePaul.
Coaching Debut
Jenny Huth will make her coaching debut on Tuesday night going against her Alma Mater. In the history of UNC women's basketball, coaches making their debut for the Bears are an even 6-6.
Exhibition Season
The Bears played one exhibition game in preparation for the 2018-19 season, hosting South Dakota School of Mines last Friday night. The Bears defeated the Hardrockers 71-39, jumping out to a 21-2 lead after the first 10 minutes. All UNC players that played in the game scored at least four points and all five UNC starters scored at least eight. Three players finished in double figures scoring in Savannah Smith (16), Alexis Chapman (12) and Micayla Isenbart (11).
What's Ahead?
A year after LSU visited Northern Colorado, it's now the Bears turn to travel to the bayou. UNC takes on the Tigers, who they defeated last year 58-50, on Sunday, November 11 at noon mountain time. The game can be seen on SECN+
