Northern Colorado women's golf sits in good shape going into the final round of the Rose City Cottegiate
AURORA, Ore. – Having struggled to get off to strong starts in their first two events of the year, UNC women's golf did that over the first two rounds of the Rose City Collegiate at the Langdon Farms Golf Club. The Bears posted a 297 in the first round and 300 in the second to sit in fourth place heading into Tuesday's final round.
Nicole Polivchak led the way for Northern Colorado posting a 1-over, 145 total through rounds with a 73 in the first and even-par 72 in the second. She was consistent throughout her two rounds, playing mostly par golf, with two birdies and three bogeys on the day. Entering Tuesday she is in a tie for seventh place.
Both Morgan Sahm and Beah Cruz also sit in the top 20 of the individual leaderboard with a two round total of 150 and 151, respectively. Sahm shot an opening round 72, that included a stretch of three straight birdies on holes seven through nine. She followed it up with a 78 in the second round. Cruz, shot a 75, 76 on her way to her 151.
The remainder of the UNC lineup in Marisa Hisaki and Jenna Chun are both in the top 30 with a 152 and 154, respectively.
Boise State leads the overall team standings with a 588, followed by Grand Canyon (590) and Portland State (591) rounding out the top three.
Portie's Perspective
"The Bears had a solid day today. Nicole Polivchak played great shooting 73-72, to be tied for seventh. She kept her ball in play all day and made a bunch of pars. She was able to keep her momentum going with some great par saves and is most likely leading the field in pars."
Morgan Sahm also was very solid, especially this morning. Her afternoon round started a little slow with a triple, but she held it together and is in a tie for 18th. Beah finished off her afternoon round with two birdies that really helped, and all five team members shot between 72-78 and are in the top 28. We look forward to another good round tomorrow as we feel very comfortable with the course and our games."
What's Ahead
The Bears close out the Rose City Collegiate tomorrow with the final 18 holes. UNC looks to secure its first top 5 finish of the year. To follow live results of the event, click here.
