UNC women's golf earned its first top 3 team finish of the season and placed two individuals in the top 10
AURORA, Ore. – Northern Colorado women's golf earned its first top 3 team finish of the year with a strong showing in the final round of the Rose City Collegiate, tying Boise State for third place shooting an 898. The Bears had the second-best team round of the day with a 13-over, 301, trailing only Eastern Washington and Seattle who both shot 300 on Tuesday.
UNC earned the top 3 team finish by having a pair of players earn top 10 individual spots and another in the top 20. Nicole Polivchak moved up two spots earning a fifth-place finish by shooting 222 for the tournament. While Polivchak did not have her best round of the tournament, her final round 77 helped the team.
Teammate Beah Cruz moved 14 spots up the leaderboard by shooting an even-par, 72 on Tuesday. Cruz, was 1-over on the front nine, before recording a birdie on the 10th and 12th hole to move to 1-under for the day. A bogey at 16 kept her from tying teammate Polivchak for fifth, instead settling for a tie for sixth.
It was a complete team effort throughout the event, including Tuesday as Jenna Chun shot a 2-over, 74 to finish tied for 17th in the tournament. The Bears lineup all finish in the top 25 as Morgan Sahm took 21st with a 229 and Marisa Hisaki 25th with a 230.
Host Portland State won the Rose City Collegiate title four-strokes ahead of the Bears at 894, and only Grand Canyon with an 897 finished ahead of UNC. Northern Colorado finished ahead of four the five other Big Sky schools in the tournament
Portie's Perspective
The Bears had a solid day today. We were off to a little bit of a slow start, making the turn at 12-over on the day and in sixth place. The team got it going on the back nine as it got windier with Beah and Jenna really stepping up for us. Beah was strong most of the day and Jenna had a couple birdies to start her back 9 that seemed to get her going. It was a great 17th place finish for Jenna as it was only her second college event. Beah's even-par round today moved her into a sixth place finish. Nicole Polivchak had a very solid tournament shooting 6-over and leading us with a fifth place finish, as it is her first Top 5 and I see many more coming her way. I'm most proud of the whole team, as they all had top 25 finishes individually, which is what you need to have top 3 team finishes. It was a great team effort this week.
What's Ahead
The Bears return home for their second event of the week in the Ron Moore DU Invite starting on Friday, October 5. The 54-hole event runs over three days, the 5th-7th.
