UNC Cross Country Competes Well at Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. – Northern Colorado's cross country team competed in its third meet of the year on Saturday as they traveled down the road to Boulder, competing in the Rocky Mountain Shootout.
The women competed in a 5.8K race, while the men ran on an 8K course. UNC's men faced stiff competition running against some of the top programs in the nation in Colorado, Colorado State and Air Force.
The Bears held their own on the men's side, including having a top finisher, Stephen Haas finish in sixth place overall individually. Haas ran the course in a time of 26:42, finishing ahead of anyone from Colorado State. As a team UNC's average pace on the men's course was 27:34.27. Jeremy Romero and Tristan Irish rounded out the top three finishers for UNC with times of 27:26 and 27:51, respectively.
On the women's side, it was just Northern Colorado and Colorado competing from the Division I teams' side. UNC finished behind the Buffs, with an average time of 23:13.89. Katy East, Cammy Sargent and Erin Thomas were the Bears top three finishers. East, who has been the top runner the previous two meets this season, once again passed the team with a time of 22:20. Sargent and Thomas clocked in at 22:59 and 23:50, each.
The team is off for two weeks before heading to Santa Clara, California for the Santa Clara Bronco Invite on October 14.
