UNC's cross country showed improvement across the board with best times of the year at the Santa Clara Invitational
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Northern Colorado's men's and women's cross country team ran its final meet before the Big Sky Championships later on this month, competing in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational Saturday. The Bears faced some strong competition at the meet but held their own showing some best time of the year across the board.
The women's team finished the race in 12th place, while the men in 15th. Katy East recorded the best time for the UNC women, running the 6K course in 21:33.0, besting her time of 22:41.9 two weekends ago at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, which was a 5.8K course.
Finishing second and third for the women's team were Cammy Sargent and Erin Thomas with times of 21:43.7 and 22:33.2, respectively. Just like teammate East, both Sargent and Thomas improved on their times compared to the Rocky Mountain Shootout.
On the men's side, freshman Stephen Haas once again led the Bears, finishing the 8K course in a time of 24:55.4. Haas improved on his mark from the Rocky Mountain Shootout by almost two minutes. Jeremy Romero finished second for UNC by running the course in 25:22.0. He was just like Haas, shaving two minutes off of his time in the team's most recent race.
Northern Colorado continued to show improvement each and every competition this season and looks to close the 2017 year out with its best race yet. The 2017 season ends at the Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah on October 28.
