GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Northern Colorado (8-14, 4-7 Big Sky) and North Dakota (13-8, 8-3 Big Sky) needed an extra period to decide the game on Saturday afternoon. UND capitalized on a 9-0 run in overtime and never looked back, sending UNC back home with an 87-77 loss.
How It Happened:
The Bears never trailed in the ball game after 18:29 to go in the first half, until there were nine seconds remaining in the game.
UNC built its lead to as many as 14 points, thanks to a strong first half performance from redshirt freshman guard, Jonah Radebaugh. Radebaugh poured in 11 points throughout the 20 minutes, but North Dakota showed resiliency and worked its way back into the contest.
A sophomore guard, Jordan Davis trey with 4:34 remaining put the Bears up 35-23, however, the Fighting Hawks responded, ending the half on a 10-2 run to make it a 37-35 game at the intermission.
Once again, Northern Colorado held the advantage over UND throughout the majority of the second half, until the final nine seconds of the game.
The Bears saw a nine-point advantage (63-54) dwindle away down the stretch.
Davis caught his fourth foul and was forced to head to the bench to sit with seven minutes left to play. Glotta stepped up in his stead and put on a clinic, scoring 16 of his team and career-high 22 points in the second half to keep Northern Colorado afloat.
A jumper by North Dakota's, Geno Crandall tied the game at 64 apiece with 1:47 left on the clock, but on the ensuing possession Glotta buried a big three on the wing to tip the scales in UNC's favor, 67-64.
With time winding down, the Fighting Hawks worked an old-fashioned three-point play and a pair of Quinton Hooker free throws to take the lead for the first time since the 18-minute mark, 69-67 with nine seconds to play.
No timeouts left to call, Davis went renegade and drove it coast-to-coast, got the runner to fall and gave everyone in Grand Forks free basketball as the score was deadlocked at 69-69 as time expired.
UND jumped out quickly in the OT period, going on a 9-0 run in the first three minutes of the extra time. All UNC could do was watch, as nothing was falling on the offensive end for the Bears.
North Dakota clinched the victory at the free throw line in the final 90 seconds, 87-77.
Game Changer:
Quinton Hooker carried the Fighting Hawks down the stretch as he was good for 16 of his 26 points in the second half and overtime, including eight points in OT. Hooker's free throws in the final seconds of regulation put UND up 69-67, which eventually resulted in the game going into extra time.
Key Stat:
After shooting 52% (13-of-25) in the first half and 47% (10-of-21) in the second half, Northern Colorado fizzled out in the overtime period, finishing just 33% (3-of-9) from the field.
In Their Words:
Head Coach, Jeff Linder:
"Give credit to North Dakota, that's what teams that are picked to win the league, or are right there fighting for a conference championship - that's what teams like that do, they find ways to win those games. We might have had four of those games that have gone the other way and they've had about four games like tonight go their way, but that's the difference between winning and losing, it's a fine line and our guys are learning that."
"We might not have the best team in terms of our record, but I know this - The reason we were able to come in here and lead for 36 minutes and have an opportunity to win the game and why we have been able to go to places where people probably don't expect us to do much and surprise them is because I have the best team in the Big Sky. That doesn't mean they're the best team record-wise, or talent-wise, but in terms of togetherness, and in terms of toughness and taking advantage of opportunities, they're the best and I can't be more proud of them."
Notables:
- Chaz Glotta's 22 points were a new career-high for the redshirt sophomore. He finished the afternoon 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range.
- Jordan Davis ended the game with 18 points, adding six assists and five rebounds to his stat line. Jonah Radebaugh was the last player in double figures for UNC with 11.
- UND got to the free throw line 12 times in overtime, finished 7-of-12 (58%) from the stripe in the extra period.
- Freshman forward, Kai Edwards led the Bears in rebounds with eight.
- Senior forward, Jon'te Dotson had another consistent game. Dotson produced nine points and six boards, along with two blocks and one steal. Seven of his nine points came from the free throw line.
- Northern Colorado lost the rebound battle to the Fighting Hawks 40-34.

The Bears will return home for five of its final seven games of the season, beginning with a visit from the Vandals of Idaho on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for next week's game can be purchased online here.
