POCATELLO, Idaho – Northern Colorado (9-17, 5-10 Big Sky) had a three-point bonanza at Idaho State (5-21, 4-11 Big Sky) on Saturday night. The Bears cashed in on a season-high tying 14 makes from downtown in the 87-81 victory.
How It Happened:
Redshirt sophomore guard, Chaz Glotta got the splash party started, making four of his five treys in the first half.
Glotta went on two runs of 6-0 and 7-0 by himself throughout different stages of the first half, ballooning the Bears lead to as much as 13 points (30-17) midway through the period.
As Glotta began to cool down, redshirt freshman guard, Jonah Radebaugh began to heat up. Radebaugh knocked down two corner three-pointers as the half drew to a close.
After the first half was all said and done, UNC had poured in eight makes from beyond the arc and held a 43-31 lead over the Bengals.
Glotta led all scorers at the intermission with 18 points. He would finish the game with a career-high tying 22.
It was more of the same for Northern Colorado as they connected on five more threes in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Glotta, Radebaugh and junior guard, DJ Miles all went to work outside the perimeter for the Bears to keep their lead in double figures, 63-51 at the 11:46 mark.
Over the next four minutes, Northern Colorado remained in control of the game, but Idaho State methodically chipped away at the Bears' lead.
The Bengals rallied on a 13-7 run that consumed the clock down to 3:23, slicing UNC's lead to just five (78-73).
a pair of possessions later, senior forward, Jonte Dotson muscled his way into the lane and finished over Idaho State's seven-footer, Novak Topalovic to push the Bears advantage back out to seven (81-74) with 1:31 to play.
On this night, Northern Colorado was able to stave off the ISU comeback and seal the game at the free throw line, making six of its last eight at the stripe to leave Pocatello with a six-point victory.
Game Changer(s):
Jonah Radebaugh and Jon'te Dotson both finished with career-nights. Radebaugh led UNC on the night with 23 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point land, and had six assists and six rebounds. Dotson produced a career-high 12 points and went a solid 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Key Stat:
42 of the Bears 87 points came from beyond the arc as the team ended the night 14-of-29 (48%). The 14 made 3FGs tied UNC's season-high for a single game.
In Their Words:
Head Coach, Jeff Linder:
"This was a great team effort tonight on the road. These guys on the road since Southern Utah, for the most part, have controlled double-digit leads, or leads throughout most of the games and that includes at Weber State and at North Dakota. Credit to my guys, at any point right now they could have packed it in, but they understand they are playing for a lot more down the road and I'm proud of the effort they give us every day."
On Jon'te Dotson and Jonah Radebaugh's night
"Jon'te would play for me regardless of what the situation is because he's a tough kid. He's not scared of the moment. Give credit to another walk-on, Jonah Radebaugh who wasn't scared of the moment as well. Look at his stat line tonight. Without those guys, we don't win this game because they made big time shots when they mattered."
Notables:
- The Bears dished out 16 assists on 29 made baskets. Both Jordan Davis and Jonah Radebaugh led the team with six apiece.
- Jordan Davis ended his streak of consecutive games in double figures at 30. Davis finished the night with just five points.
- This was the first time UNC has won at Idaho State since the 2010-11 season.
- DJ Miles was the fourth player to finish in double figures on the night for Northern Colorado. Miles had 16 points and six rebounds in the win.
