GREELEY, Colo. –The UNC men's basketball team starts the 2017-18 season on Friday, November 10 when they travel to Boulder to take on Colorado at 6 pm. The Bears enter the season with a lot of experience under their belt as Tanner Morgan and Anthony Johnson return to the lineup from redshirting a year ago. The team also adds in Arizona State transfer Andre Spight to its rotation, after he sat out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Johnson brings back his 15.8 points per game and his honorable mention to the All-Big Sky Conference team performance from the 2015-16 season. The Bears were picked to finish tied for fourth with Montana State in the preseason coaches' poll and seventh in the media poll. UNC received one first-place vote in the coaches' poll.
Head coach Jeff Linder has plenty of depth returning to its roster, beginning with junior Jordan Davis. Davis returns with his 19.3 points per game and 560 total points from last season, breaking three single-season records last year. Big Sky coaches recognize the game of Davis coming into the season, by putting him on the Preseason All-Big Sky team. Davis is 100 points away from reaching 1,000 points in his Northern Colorado career. The junior guard is making his way up a lot of the categories in the UNC Division I and overall record books. If he equals his points total from the 2016-17 season, Davis will be second all-time in the Division I UNC record books just behind Devon Beitzel (2006-11). The Bears also return the defending Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year Jonah Radebaugh.
Northern Colorado first home game of the season comes against UC-Davis Monday, November 13th. The Aggies hold the edge in the all-time series, 5-1. Their last meeting was in the 2014-15 season, where UC-Davis won 73-63.
