Northern Colorado women’s tennis closed out its season with a 6-1 loss to Idaho Sunday.
GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado women's tennis team played its final match of the 2016 season on Saturday, falling to Idaho 6-1.
"The team competed extremely well today. I am proud of their hard work and effort's today and throughout the season," head coach Brenda Gallegos said.
Idaho started the match out by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to earn the point. UNC's No. 2 duo of Hilary Walters-West and Courtney Schulte played well though, winning their match in commanding 6-2 fashion.
"Hilary and Courtney competed very well in doubles and brought home the win," Gallegos said. "They proved how good of a doubles team they can actually be today, and it was a great way to finish out the regular-season play."
The Bears earned one point in singles play. Beth Cotton earned her second singles victory of the weekend when she beat Idaho's Ana Batiri 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 match.
The No. 5 singles match was a thrilling match as well, although Anna Battersby fought hard against Maria Tavares in a 6-3, 11-9 match.
With the loss UNC was officially eliminated from making the Big Sky Tournament, ending its season with an 8-12 overall record and 4-7 Big Sky record.
