Colorado Mesa defeated Northern Colorado baseball Tuesday night 7-4
How It Happened
Northern Colorado got out to an early 3-0 on the Mavericks with a solo home run in the second by Brett Minnick and added on an unearned run when Corey Nakakura came around after reaching on an error by the CMU second baseman, Lane LaCrone.
In the third, UNC tacked on another run when they loaded the bases and Dan Reese was hit by a pitch.
Colorado Mesa responded over the next four innings scoring at least a run in each. During their scoring frenzy, CMU hit two home runs.
They took the lead for good in the fifth when they put two on the board to go up 4-3.
In the seventh, UNC got back within a run at 5-4. Tyler Yamaguchi walked to start the inning and came home after a Ryan Yamane ground out moved him to second and Jacob Ek single brought him in.
The Mavericks extended their lead in the bottom half of the inning though, two to be exact to go up by the final score of 7-4.
Players of the Game
UNC: Cole Maltese had the best night of any Bear at the plate, he went 3-for-5 in the game. Although he did not score or brining in a run he played an important role in setting the table for the team.
CMU: Catcher Kyle Serrano was a big factor in the Mavericks win Tuesday night. He was 2-for-4 in the game, with two runs scored and two RBI. Serrano hit one of CMU's two home runs and also drew a walk.
Stats of the Game
- Brett Minnick hit his third home run of the year in the game. He leads the team in long balls.
- Jacob Ek had his fourth multi-hit game of the year, to tie for the team lead with Nick Tanner and Dan Reese.
