Scouting The Bears (Game Notes) (Big Sky Notes)
-The Bears swept the series between Southern Utah the last two years in a row and are currently on a five-game win streak over the Thunderbirds.
- UNC was able to snap its four-game losing skid last Saturday with a win over Montana State at home, 78-76.
- Junior guard, Dallas Anglin led the team in the win with 20 points, 6 assists and five rebounds. Anglin's dishes were a career-best and it was the third time in just 10 games he's reached the 20-point mark.
- Last season the Bears handed SSU an 84-80 loss in Cedar City with five players reaching double figures. Former guard, Tevin Svihovec led the team with 21 points, followed by Cameron Michael's 20.
- Northern Colorado is currently 5-1 all-time against the T-Birds under head coach, B.J. Hill.
- Junior guard, Jordan Wilson is now the program's D1 record holder for consecutive games in double figures. With his 10 points against the Bobcats last weekend, Wilson has now scored at least 10 points or more in 18 straight games.
Scouting the Thunderbirds
- The T-Birds are coming off an 85-83 overtime victory over Idaho last Saturday, picking up their second Big Sky win of the season.
- Trey Kennedy led the Thunderbirds in scoring with 18 points, aided by eight points from the free throw line. Race Parsons had 15 for SUU and James McGee had 14.
- SUU boasts four players in double figures on the season, Travon Langston (13.1 ppg), James McGee (12.4 ppg), Trey Kennedy (12.1 ppg) and Casey Oliverson (10.2 ppg).
- It will be just the fourth time in the series history that UNC visits Centum Arena. The T-birds are currently 1-2 against the Bears at home, with their last win coming in the 2012-13 season, 51-50.
- SUU has lost the last five games to Northern Colorado.
Road Games
- UNC is still searching for its first win on the road this season. The Bears are 0-7 in games played away from Greeley.
- The Bears had a similar struggle last season with road games, finishing 2014-15 at 3-11. All three wins came during the conference season at Montana State, Southern Utah and North Dakota.
- Northern Colorado has seven road games left on the schedule, giving them the opportunity to surpass last season's mark of 3-11. The Bears would have to win four of the seven matchups to finish at 4-10.
- Men's hoops split the NAU, SUU trip last season. Defeating Southern Utah, 84-80, but falling at Northern Arizona, 66-60.
Milestones
- Junior guard, Jordan Wilson is now the UNC D1 record holder in consecutive games in double figures. With 10 points in the win over Montana State, Wilson has scored 10 points or more in 18 straight games, breaking the record of 17 set by former guard Will Figures during the 2009-10 season.
- Wilson also has the possibility reach 1,000 career points by season's end. The guard currently has 757 career points and with 13 guaranteed games left this season, he would need to average 19.0 ppg, five points up from his season average of 14.1 ppg. Should he continue the season as is, he would end the year with 940 career points.
- Wilson is also just three, three-pointers away from moving into 5th place all-time in the D1 era. Wilson has made 115 three-balls on his career and is looking to pass Neal Kingman's mark of 118 over the weekend.
The Return Part Two
- Junior forward, Jon'te Dotson returned to the starting lineup after missing nearly two months with a knee injury.
- Dotson started the season-opener at Kanas and played 15 minutes against Colorado Christian before going down with the injury.
- His first game back came against Montana, Dotson played 12 minutes scoring 3 points and hauling in 3 rebounds. He then got the starting nod against MSU, playing a season-high 19 minutes, scoring 4 points.
#RoadtoReno
- New this year the Big Sky Conference will be headed to Reno, Nevada for both the men's and women's tournament. The #RoadToReno will begin on New Year's Eve and take place over March 7-13 for the women's tournament.
