Scouting The Bears (Game Notes) (Big Sky Notes)
- Northern Colorado is on a four-game losing skid after losing to Montana on Thursday night, 73-66. It's the second time this season the Bears have had a losing streak of four games.
- Junior guard, Jordan Wilson led the team with 19 points in the loss. The majority of his points came from the free throw line where he finished 10-of-13 on the night.
- Wilson also tied the program's D1 record of consecutive games in double figures with 17 and will look to surpass Will Figures 2009-10 season mark on Saturday against Montana State.
- UNC also had its worst three-point shooting effort of the season against the Griz. The team finished just 2-of-15 (13.1%) from beyond the arc.
- The Bears split games with the Bobcats last season winning on the road in Bozeman, but falling at home.
- Northern Colorado is 7-4 all-time against MSU under head coach B.J. Hill.
Scouting The Bobcats (Game Notes)
- North Dakota became MSU's second league opponent in five outings to top 50% shooting, hitting 57.9% of its shots in pulling away for the win. Two of Montana State's five Big Sky opponents have topped 50% from the floor.
- Freshman guard Tyler Hall paced the Bobcats with 15 points, his 16th game this season with at least 10 points, but he was MSU's only double-digit scorer. Junior center Shy Blake chipped in nine points, and was one of four Bobcats with five rebounds.
- The Cats have shot below 40% in back-to-back games for the first time before Christmas, and the second time this season. MSU shoots 41.8% from the floor in league play, eighth in the Big Sky, and 36.8% from the arc, seventh in the conference.
- The 15 turnovers MSU forced at North Dakota on Thursday marked the fourth straight the Cats have taken the ball away at least 10 times, and is the most forced by Montana State in a game since the Utah Valley game on December 1.
- Freshman guard Tyler Hall's 15 points raises his season total to 298, and if he scores two points Saturday he will be the fastest Bobcat to 300 points since the advent of alternating possession after made baskets in the 1930s.
January Woes
- After Thursday night's 73-66 loss to Montana, UNC is now 0-4 during the month and is riding a four-game losing skid.
- Last season the Bears jumped out to a hot start during league play, going 6-3 in January. As of Friday's standings the team's 1-4 Big Sky record puts them in last place in the season standings.
- If the Bears win out the rest of the month, they'll have a chance to break even (4-4) and move up the conference standings with a 5-4 record.
- In January games against Montana State under Coach Hill, UNC is 0-4.
Division I Top 10 List
- Junior guard, Jordan Wilson is slowly crawling his way up the Division I Program Top 10 lists. He now ranks third in career assists, sixth in three pointers made, seventh in scoring average, and tenth in field goals made to just highlight a few of them.
- Wilson's 19-point performance against Montana was his 17th straight game in double figures, tying the D1 record set by Will Figures in the 20091-10 season.
- Currently the guard is averaging 3.9 assists on the year, and if his average continues he's on pace to finish the regular season with 262 career assists, taking sole possession of second place on the D1 Top 10 list and would only be behind former guard, Tevin Svihovec who holds the D1 record in career assists with 331.
Single Season Predictions
- The trio of junior guards, Dallas Anglin, Anthony Johnson and Jordan Wilson all have the chance to crack the Division I single season scoring list.
- Anglin currently sits with 159 points, while Wilson leads the pack with 245 and Johnson with 241 with a little over half of the season remaining.
- If their scoring averages continue, Anglin would finish with 404, Johnson with 431 and Wilson with 423, ranking them 8th, 4th and 5th, respectively. It would also be the first time since moving to D1 that the team had three players score 400 points in the same season.
The Return
- Junior forward, Jon'te Dotson has returned to the court after missing close to two months with a knee injury. Dotson saw his first action on Thursday night against Montana, playing 12 minutes and grabbing three rebounds and scoring three points.
