Scouting the Hornets
Sacramento State is led by second year head coach Bunky Harkleroad who has brought a unique system to the team. The Hornets employ the system made famous by Grinnell College and Coach Dave Arseneault. The system uses a high tempo offense that always presses to force more turnovers and quick shots, mostly from 3-point range to increase opportunities for offensive rebounds. The Hornets lead the Big Sky averaging 86.4 points per game and force 26.3 turnovers per game. Guard Fantasia Hilliard earned first team All-Big Sky honors this year, coming into Friday's game averaging 13.3 points, 5.5 assists and 2.9 steals a game. Sac State made it to Friday's semifinal by defeating #7 seed Montana State Wednesday 78-62.
