GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado women's basketball is set to tip off the 2026-27 season on Monday, Nov. 2, welcoming Hastings College to Bank of Colorado Arena for a 5 p.m. match up.
The Bears enter the new campaign looking to build on a successful 2025-26 season, which saw UNC finish with a 23-11 overall record and earn its first 20-win season under Head Coach Kristen Mattio. Northern Colorado continued to establish itself as a competitive program in the Big Sky Conference, finishing 13-5 in conference play before making a postseason appearance in the WNIT.
The Bears' success was reflected in the Big Sky Conference's 2026-27 preseason polls, where Northern Colorado was selected third in both the coaches' and media polls. The recognition places UNC among the conference's top contenders heading into the season and sets the stage for another competitive campaign under Mattio.
The Bears also enter the year with momentum after finishing last season with the highest-rated defense in the Big Sky.
RETURNING EXPERIENCE: Northern Colorado returns five players from last season's roster, including three All-Big Sky selections in Tatum West, Heather Baymon and Neenah George. West, Baymon and George will provide valuable experience and leadership as the Bears look to build on last season's success while incorporating a talented group of newcomers.
SCOUTING HASTINGS: The Bears will open the season against Hastings College as they begin their non-conference schedule. Monday's match up marks the first opportunity for Northern Colorado to put its offseason preparation for the test and establish momentum heading into a challenging early-season schedule.
ON DECK: Following Monday's season opener, the Bears will hit the road for their first away contest of the season, traveling to Austin, Texas, to take on No. 6 Texas on Saturday, Nov. 7.
