RESULTS
GREELY, Colo.-Â In the final home wrestling meet of the 2014-15 season, the Northern Colorado Bears not only honored their departing seniors, but also managed to come through with a few victories against the #20 Cowboys of Wyoming, even though they fell short in a 26-9 loss.
"For the most part we wrestled well," said head coach Troy Nickerson. "Wyoming has a very good team and I wont take anything away from them. I want to see a little more fight out of our guys but overally they did a good job. We need to be at our best going into the conference and we will work to do that over the next two weeks."
The Bears struggled through their first five matches, but with Brian Macchione defeating Wyoming's Leland Pfeifer 8-5, the Bears were finally on the board.Â
Macchione managed three takedowns, and an escape while adding 1:38 riding time in the victory.
Trey Andrews followed next with a 6-4 victory over Gunnar Woodburn in overtime. After falling behind in the first period, Andrews powered through with two reversals, and a takedown in the final 27 seconds of the match.
Ben Polkowske's match against his opponent Cole Mendenhall was a difficult one, but Polkowske came through with a 1-0 victory.
The Bears will be seen next at the Western Wrestling Conference Tournament on March 7 at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo, North Dakota. Â
