@UNC_TrackField Has Strong Season Opening Weekend

The Bears scored five first place finishes and four athletes meeting the Big Sky qualifying standards.
GOLDEN, Colo. – It was a busy weekend for the Northern Colorado track and field team as they opened the 2015-16 indoor season at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic and the Wyoming Power Meet.
The Bear took home top finishes in both meets, setting new Top 10 program bests along the way.
WYOMING POWER MEET (Final Meet Results)
LARAMIE - The women' team fared well in Laramie, taking first place in the 55m dash and the pole vault, along with Top 5 finishes in the 55m hurdles, long jump, triple jump and shot put.
The highlight of the meet was junior, Moriah Zachary in the 55 meter dash. Zachary led from start to finish taking top honors in the event with a final time of 6.95 seconds. Her finish is now tied for the program-best in the event and was also a personal record.
Zachary beat out sophomore teammate, Alivia Ayres-Perry, who took second place with 7.00 seconds flat.
Both Zachary and Ayres-Perry cleared the Big Sky qualifying standard in the event, earning a spot in the Indoor Championships on their first go-around.
Junior, Karli Jelden continued her success in indoor pole vault with a meet-best, 3.35 meters (10-11.75), clearing the bar over a foot higher than any other competitor.
In the 55m hurdles senior, Amber Solomon was sitting in the top spot after her preliminary time of 8.26 seconds. In the finals she just missed out on a clean sweep by .04 seconds, coming in second overall after crossing the finish line at 8.30. Solomon's preliminary time set a new personal record and moves the senior into fourth on the Top 10 program list.
Fellow senior jumper, Mackenzie Comstock had a fair showing in the long jump. Comstock took third after hitting the pit at 5.45m (17-10.75).
Newcomer Dakota Divich also captured a Top 5 finish in the triple jump. In her first collegiate meet, Divich cleared 11.06m (36-03.25), which already ranks her fifth all-time in the program record books.
Sophomore, Kathleen Dorman rounded out the women's strong opening with a second place finish heaving the shot put. Dorman scored an 11.73m (38-06.00) throw in the finals to claim the spot.
The men's jumpers also had their share of success, taking first and third in the long jump, as well as second in the triple jump.
After making a splash at last season's outdoor conference championships senior, Rolyce Boston hasn't showed any signs of regress, taking first place in the long jump. Boston was seeded first heading into the event and was true to his ranking, jumping a 7.04m (23-01.25) mark, cracking into the Top 10 program list at ninth.
Boston also qualified for the League's Indoor Championships with his jump.
Freshman jumper, Jacob Tagita finished third for the Bears in the event with a 6.58 meter (21-07.25) leap.
Junior, Jayson Dupre took second place in the triple jump, bounding his way to a 13.81m (45-03.75) finish.
As a team, both the men and the women finished in second place behind host-team, Wyoming.
MINES ALUMNI CLASSIC (Final Meet Results)
GOLDEN – It was business as usual for the veterans of the team during the three-day event down at the Colorado School of Mines.
The men's and women's team boasted Top 5 finishes in the 400m, 800m, 3000m and the triple jump.
Junior sprinter, Jordan Medina, who tied for first overall in the 400m dash at last season's Big Sky Indoor Championships picked up right where he left off, claiming another first place finish in the event. Medina broke through the tape at 50.28 seconds, just shy of the Big Sky qualifying standard (49.00) in his first of the '15-16 season.
Fellow junior and middle distance runner, Keegan Lape came in fourth overall in the 800m event. Lape finished at 2:00.26.
In the long distance event of the men's 3000m run, it was freshman Nick Bailey earning a fifth place overall finish with a final time of 9:34.39
Senior triple jumper, Francisco Au also got the rust off in his final indoor season. Au also grabbed a first place finish with a mark of 15.07m (49-4.40). Not only was the jump a new personal best for the senior, but also moved him to second place in the all-time record book.
Au easily cleared the Big Sky qualifying mark (13.70m) and earned himself a spot in the League Championships.
On the women's side, junior, Susan Meinders also carried over her indoor season success from last year after a third place finish in the 400m dash at the Big Sky
Championships. Meinders took second overall at the Classic with a final time of 58.14 seconds.
That will wrap up the 2015 portion of the Bears' indoor schedule. Both teams will be back after the New Year, competing in Nebraska's Holiday Inn Invitational on Jan. 15-16.
