Scouting the Bears (Game Notes) (Big Sky Notes)
- The Bears are currently riding a two-game losing streak after dropping back-to-back games to UMBC and Austin Peay this past weekend. The last time UNC lost two straight home games came in February last year, falling to Montana St. and Montana.
- Redshirt Sophomore Jeremy Verhagen finally had a breakout performance, dropping 20 points, including making all eight of his free throw attempts. The point total was a career-high.
- Junior guard, Anthony Johnson also hit another milestone, scoring a new career-high 20 pts. He has now set career-highs in points in three different games this season.
- Northern Colorado hasn't beaten UNO at home since the 1998-99 season and is currently on a six-game losing streak in the all-time series with the Mavericks.
- UNC fell in last year's meeting at Omaha, 92-82. Of the returners, Jordan Wilson had the best game at UNO, scoring 18 points.
Scouting the Mavericks (Game Notes)
- UNO comes into Bank of Colorado Arena with a 2-2 overall record. The Mavs are 2-1 at home and 0-1 on the road. Their most recent loss came to Pac 12 and in-state rival foe for UNC, Colorado, 87-82.
- Neb.-Omaha isn't afraid to share the wealth, with three players averaging double-digits on the year and two more with 9.0 ppg and 8.8 ppg. They currently average 85.0 points each game, which ranks them 56th in the country and first in the Summit League.
- The Mavs also apply a lot of pressure to the ball on defense, averaging 10.5 steals per game, which is the 12th best average in the nation and again, first in their conference.
- Nebraska-Omaha is led by Tre'Shawn Thurman who is currently averaging 14.0 ppg and 7.0 rebounds. Thurman is shooting 56.7% from the floor with 21-of-37 shooting.
- Northern Colorado will be the third team from the Centennial State the Mavs match up with this year. They've already played Colorado and will host Denver later in the season, as they too are Summit League members
More Home Games
- UNC will play the final of its three-game home stretch, taking on Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday, Nov. 25 on Thanksgiving Eve, at 7:00 p.m. The Bears will be away at Colorado and UC-Riverside before another three-game spurt against York (Dec. 9), Colorado State (Dec. 13) and Denver (Dec. 16).
- Junior guard, Anthony Johnson set another new a career-high in points with 20 in the loss against Austin Peay last Sunday. Johnson has now set a new career-high in points in three games this season. Johnson finished 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range.
- Northern Colorado hasn't won a home game against Nebraska-Omaha since the 1998-99 season and are currently on a six-game losing skid in the all-time series.
- UNC is 138-215 all-time against Summit League opponents and currently 0-3 against the conference under Hill.
The Jordans
- Both true freshman guard, Jordan Davis and junior guard, Jordan Wilson have been a problem for teams on both ends of the floor. Davis is currently averaging 7.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, and 1.8 steals. Wilson is dropping 13.8 ppg and has been on fire as of late from the three-point line shooting a team-high 45.8%
- Jordan Davis has now started all four games in his young career, while Wilson got his first start of the 2015-16 season last Tuesday night at home against Colorado Christian and has started every game since.
- Perhaps what is most impressive about Jordan Davis is his defense. In two games he now has seven steals which ranks him 5th in the Big Sky.
- Jordan Wilson has been dishing the rock during the early goings of the season, racking up seven assists thus far. Wilson's total ranks him 9th in the league.
- Jordan Wilson also leads the team with 11 three-pointers made which is good for 4th in the Big Sky.
At The Charity Stripe
- The Bears have one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country this year, shooting 80.4% as a squad. The percentage ranks them 10th in the country.
- Both Michael (14-of-15) and Johnson (12-of-13) have both just missed one free throw on the year. Verhagen currently leads the team in free throws made, with 15. He is currently 15-of-18 on the season.
