GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado volleyball enters a critical weekend of play as Big Sky Conference season nears an end. The Bears are currently in the eighth spot for the Big Sky Tournament if the season ended today, and faces the team one spot behind them (Portland State) and one sport ahead of them (North Dakota).
UNC takes on PSU and UND in a home-road split, starting on Thursday night against the Vikings inside Bank of Colorado Arena at 7:00 p.m. The Bears will then travel to Grand Forks on Saturday to face North Dakota at 10:00 a.m.
Coming into the week, one Bear is approaching joining special company with 1,000 career kills and digs. In the history of the program there have only been six players to reach this feat, with Kendra Cunningham closing in on being the seventh.
Portland State comes into Greeley after winning their last match against Montana State. PSU runs a six-two rotation with the trio of Jenna Mullen (3.08 Kills Per Set), Eva Linden (2.98 KPS) and Pati Anae (2.81 KPS).
The Vikings come into Thursday night's match one game behind UNC in the standings, and this being the only head-to-head matchup between the two.
When Northern Colorado travels to Grand Forks on Saturday it will be the second time in two weeks the two teams have played. UNC won the first match of the year in a sweep in Greeley. In that game the Bears out-hit (.327-.146), out-dug (52-36) and out-blocked (7.0-3.0) UND. Before hosting UNC on Saturday, North Dakota will play host to Sacramento State.
Thursday Happenings
