GREELEY -- The Northern Colorado football team will renew its in-state rivalry with Colorado State while playing a regular season game on Sept. 17, 2016 at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins, Colo. The meeting will mark the 19th time the two schools have played.
"I am pleased we were able to work out this football game with Colorado State," Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "This will be a good opportunity for our student-athletes to play close to home and allow family and friends to follow our team. I think it is great to play teams in state that give us an opportunity to connect with alumni and fans throughout the northern Colorado area."
"I think it's always great when you get an in-state team," head coach Earnest Collins said. "This game will create anticipation for the season with an in-state rivalry feel to it. I think it's great for the state. It's great for the recruiting piece. I'm always up for it when you play an in-state school and get exposure for the state of Colorado."
The Bears and Rams last met during the second week of the 2011 season. UNC outscored CSU in the second half, 14-5, but ultimately fell in Fort Collins, 33-14. Before the 2011 matchup, the two teams had not met since 1986. The first meeting between the two teams was the Bears' lone win in the series, a 5-0 decision in 1899.
Information on ticket sales and kickoff time will be announced at a later date.
Northern Colorado opens the 2014 schedule at UNLV on Sept. 6. Check out the upcoming 2014 season schedule HERE.
