Bear's volleyball finished up a four match road streak at 3-1 after falling to Weber State in four sets Saturday night.
OGDEN, Utah – In its second match in as many nights, the Northern Colorado (10-8, 3-3 Big Sky) volleyball team fell to Weber State (5-14, 2-4 Big Sky) 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 23-25, 23-25) Saturday evening.
Neither team hit well as Northern Colorado finished the match at .162 and Weber State at .173.
"We weren't ourselves offensively tonight. We struggled passing and could not get into a rhythm," head coach Lyndsey Oates said. "We had a good set one and didn't have a good mentality to finish the match tonight."
The Bears got off to a fast start in the match, hitting .375 in the first set while holding the Wildcats to .178. UNC used an 11-4 run early on to take control of the set and not look back. Junior Kendra Cunningham put down six of her total 14, while adding 13 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the year. Unfortunately, the team was unable to sustain that momentum into the rest of the match.
Weber State was able to hold UNC below .200 hitting for the remaining three sets of the match. After the Wildcats led the second set from start to finish, the teams combined for 13 ties and 9 lead changes over the final two sets.
Sophomore setter Ashley Guthrie had yet another strong performance for the Bears, posting 40 assists, 6 kills, 5 digs, 3 service aces and 5 total blocks. She was joined by senior middle blocker Brianna Strong as one of the top performers of the night. Strong recorded her sixth double-digit kills performance of the season, finishing with 11. She and Cunningham were the only players to have double-digit kills for the night.
"We will use this as a learning lesson and have it help us for our next for matches at home," said Oates.
Northern Colorado finished its four-match conference road trip 3-1 and is looking forward to coming back home to Butler-Hancock for a four-match home stand, which begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 16. against Sacramento State.
