GREELEY – In its first Western Wrestling Conference match of the year, the Northern Colorado wrestling team was shut out by a very strong Utah Valley team, 39-0.
It was the first time this season none of the 10 Bears were able to record a win on the mat during a dual as the team falls to 1-6 on the year.
Junior Cody McAninch (Broomfield, Colo.), wrestling in his fourth match at 197 pounds, went the full three periods against David Prieto and still no winner was decided as the pair was knotted at 6-6. Prieto, however, got a takedown in the first sudden victory period for an 8-6 decision.
Sophomore Mitchell Polkowske (LaJara, Colo.) also kept things close at 157 pounds, losing an 11-8 decision to Chase Cuthbertson.
Fellow sophomore Henry Chirino (Brandon, Fla.) suffered his first loss in dual action, dropping a 5-2 decision at heavyweight to Adam Fager.
The Bears host their final dual of the 2013 season on Wednesday, welcoming Wyoming to Butler-Hancock for a 7 pm start.
