Maria Strait will act as the interim head swimming coach in2008-09, while long-time head coach Nancy Hinrichs is on a medicalleave of absence.
Strait joins the Bears from Thompson Valley High School, whereshe had been the head coach since 2007 and a member of the coachingstaff since 2002. She had also been serving as an assistant boysswimming coach at Mountain View High School since 2006. In 2008,the Thompson Valley girl's team finished third at the statecompetition.
Since 2002, Strait has also been the head swim coach at WaltClark Middle School, working with almost 50 athletes of variousability levels. She also serves as an age group coach for theLoveland Swim Club, a post she has held since 2001.
In addition to coaching, Strait has been a facility manager forthe Bittersweet Swimming and Tennis Association, an aquaticscoordinator in Parker and Denver, and Greeley.
She holds several certifications, including as an instructor'scertification in both lifeguard training, CPR for the professionalrescuer and community first aid and safety.
A member of the swimming community in Colorado for over 15years, Strait returns to her alma mater as she received herbachelor's degree in recreation with an emphasis in fitness andexercise from Northern Colorado in 1995.
